Most expensive bottle of Scotch sells for £125,000

19th Sep 2011

An anonymous Chinese businessman has spent £125,000 on a bottle of 62-year-old Dalmore which had been languishing in a glass case in Singapore’s Changi airport for 6 months.

It’s thought the buyer will most likely be an investor rather than a sipper with the owner of the distillery firm  behind Whyte and Mackay, Mr Mallaya commenting that the buyer had landed “an absolute bargin”.  The price has risen by £100,000 in value in 10 years, then adding, “How much will it be worth in another 10 years”.

The rare whisky boasts a cornucopia of flavours and aromas.  These include honey, Seville oranges, coffee, bitter chocolate, cardamom, cloves, ginger and almonds.
