The Story behind Broadwick Soho: A Maximalist Masterpiece
Step through Broadwick Soho’s pink Georgian-style door adorned with a brass elephant knocker and enter a world of ’70s-inspired opulence. Brudnizki’s, the creative force behind the rejuvenation of Annabel’s and other iconic spaces, has meticulously curated every inch of Broadwick Soho. The maximalist haven captivates from every angle, ensuring that each viewpoint unveils a tantalising display of flamboyance, echoing Martin’s insightful quote, “Your eccentric godmother’s Soho townhouse”.
A Nostalgic Journey: Hayden’s Circus Roots
Owner, Noel Hayden’s journey is a remarkable tale woven with nostalgia and resilience. Born into a family of entertainers, he spent his childhood in his family’s hotel, the Mon Ami in Bournemouth, where magic shows and circus performances were nightly spectacles, – and he, his magician father’s assistant.
From Magic to Millions: Hayden’s Digital Odyssey
Hayden’s life took a turn when, after the decline of Mon Ami, the family faced adversity. Undeterred, Hayden embraced the digital age, founding Gamesys and venturing into online gaming and gambling. His success in the digital realm paved the way for the realization of a long-held dream—the resurrection of the family’s hospitality legacy.
Broadwick Soho: A Resurgence of Dreams
In 2016, Hayden acquired 20 Broadwick Street, sparking the reimagining of Soho’s glamour. Collaborating with friends including Jo Ringestad (MD), Joshua Gardner (Exec Director), Jamie Poulton (Non-Exec Director and co-owner of Soho’s Randall & Aubin) and Andrea Gelardin (Creative Director), Hayden transformed the space into more than just a hotel – its become a nostalgic tribute to his family’s legacy. The hotel now features vintage Noel family images alongside works by iconic artists like Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Bridget Riley and William Turnbull. The outcome is a sensory marvel, a resilient testament, and a celebration of Soho’s indomitable spirit.
Flute: A Seventh-Floor Spectacle
The pinnacle of Broadwick Soho’s glamour is Flute, the seventh-floor bar and terrace. Leopard-print chairs, mirror-tiled ceilings, and Austrian blinds set the stage for a sensory experience. The bar even features a tiny stage with scallop-shell footlights, reminiscent of Hayden’s childhood spent as a magician’s assistant.
A Grateful Son: Back in Business
As Hayden stood before his mother during the launch, he expressed gratitude for her resilience. With tears in her eyes, Jackie witnessed the revival of a dream that took 40 years to materialize. Hayden’s tribute—“It’s taken me 40 years, Mum, but we’re back in business.”
Broadwick Soho isn’t just a hotel; it’s a testament to the magic of dreams.
