AA Announces New 2017 Rosette Awards In Mid-year Presentations

For the first time ever, five AA rosettes have been awarded in the mid-year AA rosette awards. Michael Wignall’s restaurant at Gidleigh Park has received the first five AA rosette awarded in January in the guidebooks 61 year history.

Alistair Sandall, commercial manager at AA Hotel Services commented:

“While the awarding of five rosettes is usually included in our main Hospitality Awards in September, we all felt that we could not delay this award until then. Michael Wignall has transferred his exquisite skills and style to Gidleigh Park and has made this undoubtedly worth of this accolade.”

Wignall and his team only moved to the Devon hotel in January, from The Latymer at Pennyhill Park where he also held five AA Rosettes. He said of the award:

“This is great news to start 2017 and richly deserved by the brilliant team here at Gidleigh Park. We’re delighted that the inspectors enjoyed their visits to the restaurant and are honoured that they have made an exception to give us the award now. We look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests throughout 2017 and beyond”

Three further restaurants have been promoted to four rosettes and twelve to three rosettes including Celeste at the Lanesborough in London and Bovey Castle also in Devon.

Morston Hall, Blakeney, Norfolk

AG’s Restaurant at Alexander House Hotel, Turners Hill, Crawley

Anglo, London EC1

Boringdon Hall Hotel (Gallery Restaurant), Plymouth

Bovey Castle, Moretonhampstead

Céleste at The Lanesborough, London SW1

Crossbasket Castle, Blantyre

Inver Restaurant, Strachur

The Elderflower Restaurant, Lymington

The Mount Somerset Hotel and Spa, Taunton

The Olive Room, Ilfracombe

The Square, London W1

Tuddenham Mill, Newmarket

Restaurants awarded three AA Rosettes are all outstanding restaurants that achieve standards that demand national recognition well beyond their local area, while those achieving four AA Rosettes are among the top restaurants in the country.  To achieve five AA Rosettes, the restaurants are the pinnacle of the nation’s restaurants where the cooking compares with the best in the world and exhibit breath taking culinary skills and set the standards to which other aspire to and yet few achieve.
