1. Massimo Restaurant, The Corinthia Hotel London, WC2

Golden, gorgeous and oozing sepia tinted glamour, Massimo is a steam-age dream. This vast, elegant, Deco-style brasserie reclines with sprawling acres of chestnut banquettes stretched into the distance. Based in the lovely Corinthia Hotel, the Maltese owners have a style all of their own, which doesn’t kowtow to the current celebrity chef fervour. Chef-patron Massimo Riccioli, though well established in Rome, is not a fame-seeker. He is a master chef instead, which is handy in a restaurant. Bursts of incredible Italian seafood roll off the tongue and bring sheer pleasure to the senses.

2. Northall, The Corinthia Hotel London, WC2

Garry Hollihead’s striking restaurant in the Corinthia Hotel is a gorgeous, opulent affair, with huge windows stretching up to double-height ceilings, fabulous crystal chandeliers, studded leather chairs and vases of perfect flowers. The kitchen is dedicated to native produce and Hollihead’s fastidious sourcing is evident from plump Maldon oysters to melting slabs of Cumbrian steak and the all-British cheeseboard. Flavours burst forth in gusts of gorgeous taste while around you, the large, posh-glitzy dining room seduces. The stylish presentation is a fitting backdrop to the superb quality of the cooking, with every dish being bold, beautiful, yet subtle.

3. Redmond’s Restaurant at Carden Park Hotel, Chester, Cheshire

Carden Park Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa is a huge focus for entertaining with its own onsite vineyard producing 6,000 bottles of Carden Old Gold sparkling wine each year. A 1,000 acre estate in Cheshire with a one mile long driveway makes for an impressive entrance to any meal. Redmond’s is the opulent and atmospheric formal dining restaurant built on several tiers and with an adjacent lounge bar for pre-dinner drinks and digestifs. A great destination restaurant for the Cheshire area.
