Design Restaurants Worldwide – Dining Out in Doha
Qatar seems to always be in the news these days – the latest debate raging is about rumors that the 2022 Football World cup may be switched from summer to winter to help contend with the extreme heat. Design Restaurants Managing Director, Tessa Shreeve, spent her Easter in Qatar’s capital, Doha and her visit kicks off a new series of articles we will be bringing you across the year, ‘Design Restaurants Worldwide’.
Dining in Doha is, in the main, hopping from one luxurious five star hotel to the next. You can expect successful outposts of famous international chef’s and restaurants such as Gordon Ramsay, Hakkaasan and Alain Ducasse but aside from the more spacious and grander hotel lobbies you could be forgiven for thinking you were in London. Cuisine choice is in abundance with Chinese, Thai, French, Modern British, Indian, Korean, Fusion and Middle Eastern. Pricing is pretty much on par with London aside from alcohol which is a tad more and not available at all in some.
Here’s Design Restaurants choice of the best restaurants in Doha in Spring 2013:
Best for Brunch
Four Seasons Doha
Friday brunch is massive so book up early if you want a table inside or out.
Best for Drinks
The W Hotel
Spoilt for choice with two great destinations – The Spice Market for Happy Hour with snacks from 5 to 7 …
…and The Wahm Bar (See pic of Tessa above) for indoor and outdoor drinks – we recommend reserving an outdoor area as the indoor music can be a rather loud as the evening continues for audible conversation.Best for Outdoor Casual Dining
The Sky View Bar at Le Cigale
Finese, dramatic views and atmospheric. Make sure you arrive after 7pm when it opens.
Best for non-hotel Dining
Saffron on Katara
Indian food at its finest with immaculate service. Dine inside or out but note this is a dry restaurant.
Best for Fine Dining
Hakkasan at the St Regis or Idam and Alain Ducasse at the Museum of Islamic Art, Al Corniche
Hakkasan – A beautifully laid out restaurant so you have intimate dining areas with some of the finest Chinese cuisine you’ll find anywhere.
Alain Ducasse – Exotic, with beautiful French cuisine with an Arabic twist.
Most Romantic
Gordon Ramsay at the St Regis
Spacious and lavish setting with seating inside or out. Great lighting and attentive but discreet service.
Best for Poolside Dining
Pool Grill at the Four Seasons
Unbeatable location on the beach itself and super beachcomber relaxed.
